A short conversation with the legendary documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles (1926-2015).
Editing: Alfonso Nogueroles
Camera: Steven Brahms, Alfonso Nogueroles
Sound: Miguel Carretero
In 2012 I was in New York doing a job for which I had to interview Albert Maysles (1926-2015)
I knew about his work with his brother David and their great reputation, but I had never seen a whole film. So before meeting him, I woke up at 5am to watch GREY GARDENS… What a shock… I realized that many directors I like have simply stolen from the Maysles. As I entered Mr. Maysles’ office I felt as if I was finally meeting my grandfather.
This gentleman was filled to the brim with wisdom and was kind enough to talk to us about what makes a documentary interesting and about one of his last projects, “In transit”.
Do yourself a favor and check out his work.

Reviews:
“It’s a personal story and yet it has all the truth and authenticity that you wouldn’t find otherwise.” This brief but intimate interview between Alfonso Nogueroles and the late, great Albert Maysles in his cluttered office is filled with warmth and wisdom.
